Thanksgiving is around the corner, and We're obsessed with boosting student engagement, and nothing does it better than STEM! our students, ever favorite STEM activity is how to catch a Turkey or build a trap for catching a Turkey? In this hands-on activity, catching a Turkey using STEM principles, young minds are tasked with designing and building their very own Turkey traps.

This is for all grades by increasing the difficulty level.

How To Catch a Turkey STEM Activity With Free Worksheets & Lesson Plan

Objective:

Engage students in a hands-on STEM activity to design and build a Turkey trap using limited materials while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork.

This activity can be done with all grades by increasing the difficulty level.

Your neighborhood is hosting a "Turkey Palooza" for Thanksgiving, and everyone is responsible for contributing a Turkey to the grand feast. Unfortunately, you realize that all the neighbors have already picked up their Turkeys, and you are the only one left without one! How will you design a creative Turkey-catching device to make sure your contribution to the Turkey Palooza is a success?

How to catch a Turkey STEM activity

Materials:

4 pieces of cardboard
2 pieces of string
Pipe cleaners
12 inches of tape per student
Scissors
Turkey {Printout Free Available at the Bottom}
Binder clip for standing Turkey

Duration:

1 class period (approximately 45 minutes)

Procedure:

Read aloud:

Read aloud the book How to Catch Turkey?

Introduction (10 minutes):

Begin by discussing the challenge: catching a Turkey for Thanksgiving using the provided materials.

Emphasize the importance of creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Show a brief example or illustration of a simple Turkey trap.

Materials Distribution and Explanation (5 minutes):

Distribute materials to each student or group.

Explain the purpose of each material:

Cardboard for walls, a string for containment, pipe cleaners for structure, and tape for securing.
