Instructions

Maze Preparation Steps

  1. Print: Print out your desired maze and circular paper template.

  2. Laminate: Pass both the maze and the paper circle through a laminator to create a durable, protective surface.

  3. Usage: Once laminated, use a dry-erase marker to complete the maze. When finished, you can easily wipe the surface clean with a dry cloth or eraser, allowing you to use the maze repeatedly.

Pen or Pencil Holder Preparation Steps

Instructions

  1. Print the template.

  2. Glue or tape the printed template onto a piece of sturdy cardboard or a paper plate.

  3. Carefully cut out the template by following the outline, including the circular shape.

  4. Make one hole in the center of the small circle for the marker.

  5. Make six evenly spaced holes around the outer edge of the small circle.

  6. Cut six equal lengths of yarn.

  7. Thread one piece of yarn through each of the six outer holes.

  8. Secure each piece of yarn by tying a knot or taping it firmly to the back of the circle.

Insert the marker into the center hole.

Invite 4 or 6 children to gather around the table, with each child holding one piece of yarn. Explain that no one can touch the marker with their hands; they can only move it by gently pulling or relaxing their piece of yarn. Encourage the children to talk to one another, using simple directions like "pull a little," "stop," "left," or "slowly."

At the beginning, the marker may wobble or move off the path as everyone learns how their movements affect the group. As the children communicate, observe, and adjust their pulls, they begin to coordinate their actions. They quickly discover that slow, gentle movements and teamwork work much better than rushing.

By the end of the challenge, the group works together more confidently, carefully guiding the marker through the maze from start to finish. Whether they complete it on the first attempt or after a few tries, children experience the value of patience, cooperation, problem-solving, and celebrating a shared success as a team.
