    Easy Valentine’s Day Coding Bracelets:

    If you like to help your children learn to code, this simple valentine's stem activities bracelets challenge is an amusing way to teach coding to kids.

    This easy coding bracelets activity enables kids to learn binary and the basics of coding.


    This Valentine’s Day coding activity is our favorite technology activity for kids!

    Valentine Binary Bracelet STEM Elements:

    Engineering: 

    Kids can create their bracelets in a variety of ways.

    Math:

    Kids must keep track of patterns, count, and understand binary language.

    Technology:

    Kids learn the basics of coding binary. See what other Valentine’s phrases kids can make using binary letters.

    What you’ll need to make Valentine coding bracelets: 
    • Pony beads
    • Chenille stems
    • Binary letter chart (pdf link below)

    How to Make a Binary Coding Bracelet:


    We have made the words “LOVE” and “Heart” on our bracelets. We used one color of pony beads to represent the zeros, one color to represent the ones, and one color to represent the space between letters.

    To create a Binary Coding Bracelet for the words "LOVE" and "Heart" using the provided binary codes, follow these steps:

    Materials Needed:

    1. Different colored beads (choose one color for 0, another for 1, and a third for spaces)
    2. Stretchy string or yarn
    3. Scissors

    Step-by-Step Guide:

    For "LOVE":

    1. Understand the Bead Code:
    • L: 01101100
    • O: 01101111
    • V: 01110110
    • E: 01100101
    • L: ⚫⚫⚪⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫
    • L: ⚫⚫⚪⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫
    • O: ⚫⚫⚪⚫⚫⚫⚫⚪
    • V: ⚫⚫⚪⚫⚫⚫⚪⚪
    1. Cut the String:

      • Cut a piece of string long enough to go around the wrist comfortably, plus a bit extra for tying knots.

    2. String the Beads:

      • Thread the beads onto the string according to the bead code for each letter.
      • Use one color for 0, another for 1, and the third for spaces.
      • For "L," string beads as ⚫⚫⚪⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫, leaving a space bead between each.

    3. Separate Letters:

      • After each letter, add a space bead to separate them.

    4. Finish "LOVE":

      • Continue stringing beads and adding space beads until you've spelled out "LOVE."

    5. Tie the Ends:

      • Tie the ends of the string together with a double knot.

    6. Trim Excess String:

      • Trim any extra string with scissors.

    For "Heart":

    Repeat the same steps using the bead code:

    • H: 01001000
    • E: 01100101
    • A: 01000001
    • R: 01010010
    • T: 01010100
    • H: ⚫⚪⚪⚪⚫⚫⚫⚫
    • E: ⚫⚫⚪⚫⚪⚫⚫⚪
    • A: ⚫⚪⚪⚫⚫⚪⚪⚫

    Wear and Share:

    Encourage the kids to wear their Bead Code Bracelets proudly. They can share with friends and family, explaining how each bead combination represents a letter. It's a colorful and creative way to learn about coding!

    This simplified version should make it easier for kids to follow along and enjoy the process.

    Remember when making these twist the end of the chenille stem around the first bead in this manner the string of beads remains in place. Otherwise, if you bump it, the entire design will be lost! Wrapping the bead prevents tragedy.
